If you replace this with a 1999 or 2001 Chevy or Gmc it will work but a little different and different. What I mean is that when the recirculation button is selected, the compressor runs regardless of whether the Ac light is on or off. In a way it's better to run the compressor with the heater on as it won't fog up your windows like it did with the old design that didn't dry. Air if convection was on. All of these things have been tested by both GM and Dorman's engineering department. FYI all the people who had this issue in the comments can now see the cause. The compressor no longer works as it used to.
