Review on Master Lock 5900D Personal Gunmetal by Ethan Carpenter

COMPLETELY FALSE FEELING OF SECURITY

Well that was just what I needed. It matched my stuff perfectly and seemed secure. About 3 months later it started to fail. It did not open and close smoothly and became very difficult to open and close. After about 5 months it got really annoying so I contacted Master Lock support. They sent me some maintenance info/videos to make it work better. Well I never took the time to heed the advice. Then it was completely locked for almost (exactly) 6 months of ownership and I couldn't unlock it at all. So. In the end I cracked it. AND IT WAS INCREDIBLY EASY TO HACK. I did it quickly, without any effort, with a metal nail file while holding my dozing son on my shoulder. in about 8 seconds. And leave with no obvious signs of a safe being broken into. Just a few very minor scratches that I really had to search to find. Something I probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't known from the start. It's like putting up signs in your yard saying you have a home security system, but you don't actually have one. this is the front. This will likely discourage an honest scammer, but won't really keep someone away from your valuables when they need them. Even at $15, it's a bargain. Very disappointed with such a famous brand. Shame on Master Locke. I'm pretty sure small toy trinket boxes are harder to break open. Of course I will replace my small safe with something else.

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.
