Not waterproof for cycling

Good, could be better. As the best and one of the very few legal light/reflector combinations, it stands out from the rest. How it? ALL bikes must have reflectors and all bikes operated after dark must have lights. Bikes have little space to transport things. Why aren't most bike lights also reflectors? However, they are not waterproof and are not advertised as such, nor are they labeled as waterproof. There is a rubber seal between the two halves of the housing. I had one for about a year, she died. I opened it up and found that it initially looked like a leaking alkaline battery, but upon closer inspection it turned out to be water. Cleaned up, let it dry for a few days and hope for the best. Vain. replacement ordered. A few weeks later I took the broken one, cleaned it a little more and tried again. Now it works. It's just ok - bright, nowhere near as bright as many (even cheaper) modern LEDs. The warranty is two years, again not listed on the box, and I don't feel like digging through the Cateye website to find a service address. I recommend applying silicone grease to the rubber gasket and/or clear tape around the joint to improve water tightness.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
