I have been using this product since I started my aquarium a few months ago. This was suggested by my LFS to maintain water quality without changing the water. We have a 36 gallon aquarium with guppies, farlowell catfish, dory catfish and various plants. We use this in combination with Seachem's neutral regulator and discus buffer (in powder form) to never change the water. a tank of tap water straight from the tap. Add two teaspoons of each powder per 20 gallons of water. Add Microbial Lift (one full capful) every night for four weeks. Once the tank is set up and fish have been added, perform routine maintenance: Add a full cap of Microbial Lift each week. If necessary, top up evaporated water with tap water that has been treated with the two powders mentioned above. I do scheduled maintenance on a weekend evening after turning off the light in the tank as recommended in the instructions. I don't take exact measurements now, but I just add two micro-elevator presses to the aquarium (I don't tear off the whole foil, I just dig a hole with a stick). Last year the fish were fine, the water hasn't changed. We are located in Northern California. You may need to change the settings slightly depending on the fish species and local water quality.
