I was concerned about heat transfer through the base of the cup warmer which could damage the countertop but it seems adequately insulated. It doesn't get too warm down below, even after half an hour of operation. The look/design is cute and it keeps my hot drinks warm (since it's not already hot; I think it will take a LONG TIME to warm up the mug to bring the drink to room temperature or cold). It makes a low, high-pitched sound that slides up and down in pitch as it breathes light. So if you're sensitive to ultra high-pitched sounds, this might bother you. I like the size and stability of the cup warmer. I wish it had an auto shut off when I take the cup off the heating pad. It claims to turn itself off after so many hours of use, but I have yet to test the feature. I don't like the idea of leaving it on and unattended. Honestly, I could do without the "breathing lights" if it didn't make the cup warmer screech. But it's not so destructive to me that I don't use it.
