Review on πŸ’» Plugable AB Switch - USB 3.0 Sharing Switch for Instant One-Button USB Device or Hub Swapping Between Two Computers by Edgar Gomez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great convenience for the price, few features

I used to swap the Skiva OctoFire hub between desktop and laptop when I got home from work. I bought a Plugable USB 3.0 Sharing Switch to alleviate this hassle. The desktop is powered even when it is off. This means that the plug-in switch can always be switched on, even if both machines are switched off. Notebook (Dell) requires you to initiate the boot process before pressing any key on the connected device. Not perfect, but manageable. Definitely better than swapping cables. In general, both machines are running Ubuntu and seem to work fine, although I'm seeing some errors on boot for unknown USB devices that weren't there before. Everything works, so it doesn't matter. When dual booting the Windows desktop to play ESO, the sound is sometimes muted on the Corsair Virtuoso. This would not be possible without the plug-in; and apart from one minor annoyance, he always seems to bounce back. The Logitech mouse and keyboard do not appear to be affected. In addition, the packaging is quite good. I'm glad they include extra cables. The form factor is small and fits under a monitor stand.

Pros
  • Quick swap
Cons
  • Weight
