Update: Less than a year after purchase (but used less than 3 months) the device has failed. The original as I said in my original comments lasted 5 years so this one is inferior to the original. New battery and contacts from the battery to this mechanism, all clean and good connections by the way. I don't know how long they will last outdoors but the original lasted about 5 years in an outdoor wall clock.
