Carrying your phone in a shock or rubber case won't keep it in place. In fact, even out of the case, my phone flew out of its clips onto the ground after accelerating at a traffic light. It stays on the dash but you need to find a flat spot on the dash. It adapts, and if I had a smaller and lighter phone it could handle it. I have a Moto 8 stylus - I don't like the size of this phone but that seems to be all manufacturers do. work better if the side clips have a little more teeth at the front.
