UPDATE: I've found that the round cupboard door bumpers also don't stay in place but push back, although they do stick fairly firmly once installed. Maybe it's a combination of glue and a metal surface angled to the table top. I'll have to try something else. Otherwise, I still like the laptop stand. The laptop stand has a very strong metal construction and leaves the bottom of the laptop almost completely open for excellent ventilation, which is great for non-hard and flat surfaces. However, if you don't use the small fold-out stand, the front metal edge will come in contact with the table or table top and may scratch it when the stand moves. There are pads on the bottom, but the glue will soften, so the pads will slide. Also, they're too thin to touch the surface, but something like bumpers on closet doors can easily fix that.
