We bought this to take to the beach with a group of eighth graders when there was no lifeguard on duty (along with a throwing buoy... so it was mostly for rope). Although we didn't have to save anyone, we used it as a clothesline outside our cabin and it became apparent that the rope was tangled inside and couldn't flow freely in an emergency. So an important tip: practice removing the rope and putting it back in your bag until you're sure you've done it right. It can mean the difference between life and death!
