Functionally, this food slicer just isn't perfect. If it wasn't so heavy it might be perfect for a child as the handle is so short. As a small woman, I don't have big hands at all and it was difficult for me to hold it due to the short handle and heavy weight. Despite appearing heavy, the cutting wire is actually average quality and not much thicker or thinner than what I've seen from other brands - I'm sure it will break if you try to use it on a block too thick but will last a year or so for use with smaller blocks (1lb size) before snapping. Replacing the wire is also not that easy, as is the case with most slicers of this type. All in all, I cannot recommend this slicer. The handle is too short and heavy making it awkward/difficult to use.
