Pretty Good Tool - C-Clamps and Locking Pliers

This is a review of Yiyi Tools 10 inch locking pliers. Although they are advertised as 10 inch pliers, I would classify them as 9 inch pliers. If you don't have the adjustment screw to the maximum length, they are 9 inches long. All in all, well-made pliers. The tips are flush when together, giving you a good grip close to the work surface. The trigger mechanism works very well. Relatively little force is required to open locked jaws. The adjustment bolt knob is a good size. You can make friends with that. It also has knurling, again for a good grip. The tool has curved jaws that should give a good grip on round materials. The point where the sponge attaches to the body of the pliers is a very clean, professional looking weld. The wire cutters have a tapered side and a flat anvil shaped side, just like my pliers of the same brand. Neither tool was up to the task of cutting thin wire. If you want to cut a lot of wire, you'd better get a wire cutter. I have a few minor issues with these pliers and these are the reasons I didn't give the tool five stars. . First, the adjustment screw doesn't look well made. When turning, there is significant friction. It's not bad, but it's definitely more noticeable than with my signature pliers. The Revain advertisement states that the tool has a "hex key set screw". The tool I received didn't have this. Unless it's a new feature in a later version of the tool, this is an inaccurate description. Another problem is that the rivets are not flush on one side and the edges of the rivets are sharp on that side. That was one of the first things I noticed when I picked up the instrument for the first time. Again, this isn't a terrible flaw, it's just not as sophisticated as my popular brand's pliers. The final issue is that, like other adjustable locking pliers, the handles are quite widely spaced when unlocked, making it difficult to get a good grip. Since this issue is specific to my famous brand of pliers, I'm assuming it's a physics/leverage/design issue. Overall, they are very well made and make a durable impression. In fact, they are identical to well-known branded instruments of similar design. They seem better made than some of the other versatile tools I've seen and I would have no hesitation in recommending them. The above issues are minor and should hardly affect the tool's performance.

Pros
  • The hex wrench set screw is tightened to adjust pressure and tighten materials for controlled release.
Cons
  • There are defects
