The Hakko soldering iron comes with a pointed tip that doesn't heat anything very well. To solve this problem I had to increase the temperature of the iron well above the recommended range. When I tried to remove the Hakko tip, I found that the cylinder surrounding the heating element was stuck to the tip. I bought this set to be able to use one of the several chisel tips that came with it. Then I had to buy a new pen to replace the damaged one. I found a Chinese clone that works fine. With the new spade lugs I can solder everything from pinpoint connections in LCDs to high power wires.
