3rd hand required for intended use

I was able to use these devices with a few modifications. The obvious downside to the design is that it takes two hands to open and hold the magnet ring, requiring a third hand to fit whatever you want between the magnets. I ended up using it the other way around, slipping the magnetic ring onto the closet rod and cutting the tip off the "hook" so it's just a hook now. It also works for attaching the magnetic piece to a stable surface like a ledge or shelf and using the other end as a hook. I assume it doubles as a handy shopping cart purse hook.
