Review on Efficient and Convenient Shop Garage Electric Heater: Dr. Infrared Heater DR-975 7500-Watt 240-Volt Hardwired, Remote Controlled Thermostat, Wall/Ceiling Mounted by Faith Miller

I need more (and would like gas) but this was the easiest fix for .

I replaced the smaller 5k cube in my 25x25x9ft workshop with this one. It is partially isolated. It mostly continued when it got very cold that winter. I need more (and would like gas) but this was the easiest solution to install next to the panel. You need a 40A circuit. Don't listen to reviewers who say otherwise. If in doubt, read the instructions. The quality is definitely better than my $150 cube in terms of build quality and fans. The mount is good, except that the instructions say the back must be no closer than 12 inches from the back wall. Well, it's a wall or ceiling mount. If it's attached to a wall, it's pointing away from the wall (not parallel), and hence getting a gap like that is IMPOSSIBLE. It's more like 9 inches. Well, I have found that if there is not enough space behind it, the ambient temperature inside the device will rise and the device will shut down too soon. Even with 3 feet behind (hanging from the ceiling) I had to remove the temp sensor and hang from the back. That's not enough. I really need it to be off the block. - The installation of a remote thermostat is not well explained in the instructions and a phone call to the company got nowhere. When asked about the amperage I would need for a thermostat, they told me that's not how it works. Um yes it is! Without knowing from the schematic what's in the "controller circuit" I have to assume that the thermostat can draw the full 33 amps of current in the event of a fault. I had no intention of running this calibration cable to a remote thermostat. Why don't you let me hook up a low voltage remote temp sensor? I could have guessed it and just used the lower rated thermostat found here, but without more information it didn't seem safe. - The device turns on spontaneously. That's right, I've gone into the shed SEVERAL times and found it to be on, even though I KNOW I turned it off with the remote. When I first found it on, I turned it off with the remote, came back the next day and it was back on. Crazy. In the off-season I have to turn off the electricity. I am very satisfied with the noise level, even if others complain. Gasoline aside I would have liked a more powerful unit but I didn't want to spend more money at the time so for what I'm spending I'm happy with it.

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
