I wanted to upgrade my Insignia speakers I bought 4 years ago so I invested in them. I was immediately impressed by the crystal clear sound from high to low frequencies. I have read many of the reviews here and may be able to respond to some of the negative comments. 1) Yes, the cables to the speakers along with the auxiliary cable are short. The cables to the speaker are maybe four feet long (which is a lot), and the accessory cable is also about the same length (which is a problem). The auxiliary cable comes from the woofer and not the speaker like in other sound systems. So with the woofer on the floor, the aux cable barely reaches my laptop on my desk. I think you can always buy an extension for it. 2) The sound is very balanced. Everything is crystal clear, and even at high volume there is very little distortion3) I say the following fragment with caution. No, the bass is not super strong. Although in my opinion the bass should never drown out the high frequencies, which is the sad case of most modern music. Everyone seems to want to blow their eardrums. My $30 Insignia speakers had a stronger base that could shake my entire bedroom. This bass really doesn't compete. BUT I think it's perfect for balancing music without being too heavy. I turned mine full on and it's perfect for my use. 4) With 80 watts of power, don't blow them up. And they can be very, very loud. 5) They look stylish and are durable. They look more expensive than they really are as they are made of wood and not plastic like other speakers in this price range. 6) The volume control is a separate knob that fits in the palm of your hand. It's heavy and won't fall off your desk, which was my initial concern before I bought it. 7) Someone said there was a lot of feedback and white noise. Check out my video; I don't have that with mine. maybe it was defective? I hope this review helps. These speakers are probably built to a higher level of quality and for their price range. I made a video with different music. Yes, I know the iPhone's microphone can't pick up every little thing, but at least you can get an idea of what they're like. Sorry the video crashes at the end, out of memory :/
