This uses a brilliant chain tensioning method (tiny pulley/ratchet) to ensure you don't have loose chains damaging your car. It's also a little tricky to figure out at first, so make sure you put them on (and take them off) a few times as practice before trying them out on a cold, snowy road. I only practiced once so it took me a good 15 minutes to re-read the instructions and get them, which took me in the middle of a snowstorm. But they worked well, without them I wouldn't have made it through the snowy/icy mountain pass with my Acura TSX.
