Review on Chrome Pulltap's Classic Corkscrew by Leon Johnsson

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Great until it breaks. Terrible guarantee.

This corkscrew was great until it broke. The screw penetrates the cork gently and has the right pitch to not tear or break even a thin cork. The angle of the lever is ideal for all but the stubborn corks, allowing them to be removed with ease. The teeth on the foil cutter blade effortlessly cut lead, plastic and almost any type of foil. The problem was that the corkscrew broke after only 4 months of normal domestic use. The screw would not engage, the problem was with the spring clamp in the handle. This spring keeps the screw perpendicular to the handle and locks the foil blade in the open or closed position. As the spring popped out of its position, the screw turned and the blade popped out on its own (photo attached). This made using a corkscrew a dangerous business. Since it has a 2 year warranty, I contacted the manufacturer. I was told to give it back to Revane. Revain's return policy is 30 days, so that didn't work. I sent the photos to Pulltex and explained to them and they eventually offered to look into my complaint and if they agree I can pay the $25 shipping cost to get a replacement. When the item was only $32, it didn't seem like a good deal. In fact, it felt like they were actually selling me a replacement. So the warranty doesn't matter to me at all. I tried to fix it with pliers and an awl but even with a helper we couldn't find the right angle and force to move the spring. took. Too bad the customer service is so bad.
