Review on πŸŒ™ BESTTEN Dusk to Dawn Outdoor Remote Control Outlet with Photocell Countdown Timer, 2 Grounded Outlets, ETL and FCC Certified, Black by Chris Hart

Inexpensive outdoor timer with photocell

It works exactly how announced and the remote control is very useful. I made a small upgrade to my landscape lighting - replaced all the halogen bulbs with LEDs and also replaced the timer in the transformer box with an external photocell (the original was one of the pop-up latch models). First of all, From Dusk Till Dawn with variable lighting times is a big improvement. No more approximating the current time or adjusting which sliders are on or off during the season to follow the sunset. Also, you don't have to set it for daylight savings time or when there's a power outage. Secondly, the only reason the remote was worth it was that you could easily change lightbulbs with it. Many of the lights were >15 years old and had cobwebs inside and/or the old bulb was difficult to remove. I couldn't keep them on all the time when changing bulbs because halogen bulbs get too hot to touch. So I could change the bulb, confirm the success of the swap with the remote control (bulb installed, connected, etc.) and then move on to the next bulb – instead of running back and forth from transformer to transformer. always shine. So, while that's all I've ever used the remote for, it was worth it! My only suggestion for improvement (which I think would be pretty cool) would be an additional "turn on 1 hour before sunrise" option. i.e. when dawn comes "today" (every day), start a timer that counts down to 23 hours, then turn on the lights "tomorrow" at that time. This automatically adjusts the sunrise times for the time of year.

Pros
  • 4 functions: 1. Remote control on/off 2. Manual on/off 3. Turn on at dusk and turn off at dawn 4. Countdown mode with photocell
Cons
  • Hard to tell
