Review on Spyder Rapid Eject 600107 5 Inch by David Dortch

wood versus metal. wood wins!

Like the other reviewer, I tried using it to cut a hole in the roof for ventilation. I didn't hit the mark like the other reviewer, but I didn't fill the gap either. The saw barely hit the wood before I noticed it was smoking. I couldn't believe how flattened my teeth were in less than a minute and I powered it with an 18v cordless drill so speed wasn't an issue. I have used Spyder crowns in the past with great results and paid extra to stick with a brand I believed in. Carbide bits have had good results in the past to be honest, but I figured this saw would be the best choice given the material I was trying to cut. I had already cut the bitumen shingles so all that was left to do was cut felt paper and plywood decking. I ended up having to use a saber saw to punch through the plywood and while it went through with no problems it didn't leave the clean round hole I was looking for with the Spyder bit. I've never seen a blade wear down on any material so quickly in my 30+ years as a carpenter.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
