Review on KUFUNG Stainless Steel Mesh Strainer - Fine Mesh & Wire Sieve, Non-Slip Handles - Perfect Kitchen Strainer for Sifting, Straining, & Draining (S, Black) by Icehot Cleversley

Large strainer goes well with pots - strainer is good but not as fine as a tea strainer

This is a beautifully made large strainer. Conclusion of my evaluation: it works, the processing quality is good. I thought the seller's photos of the item gave me a good idea of what the item would look like and how it was constructed. It was exactly what I expected with no fun surprises in size/shape/finish/gauge. Details: Photos provided by seller are correct. The wire handle is thick and the hard black plastic part is reliably thermoset with no gaps between the wire and the plastic. The size/roundness of the plastic handle is comfortable and easy to use. The metal mesh retaining rim holds the mesh securely and I expect them to last a long time. Several bent metal wires are welded to the rim opposite the handle, which together with the handle serve to hold the colander on the pan. These wires were also thick, like the wires in the handle. The spot welds seemed reliable enough. Be sure to check the size, this is a large strainer that can be placed on top of the pot and is used to strain liquids you pour into the pot. It is not deep enough to be used as tea leaves in cooking. Or at least if you're trying to use it as a brewing device, the liquid level in the pot must be too high. The mesh is flat and the gauge wire fits the mesh (it's stiff). It will be relatively strong and will hold its shape, but don't put heavy cast iron pans on it in a drawer. It retains its shape under normal conditions of use and storage. Because it's large - the "fineness" of the mesh's weave is proportionally wider than that of a small tea infuser, although the size of the wire in the mesh appears to be similar to my tea infuser. I personally would like the same mesh size as my small tea infuser, but the downside is that it can be too small for most dishes. I've never had a colander that big - it's nice to have on hand.
