Ball head good, quick release mechanism bad

After adjusting the tension (tightening the hex screw on the center line of the bracket) the grip holds quite well. but never forget to tighten the locking screw on the head! Even after the tongue clicks, it may not, assuming the QR plate is locked. Even when it snaps into place, the trigger is easy to touch and release the tab when in use. Part of a gear fell off this afternoon because I didn't realize how critical the set screw was. To be honest, I'm not sure if the problem was the lock not locking or the release lever being brushed. At first I was certain it was a lock malfunction as I was able to install the plate, feel a click and still disconnect. But when I took everything apart at the end of the day, I found that the release lever itself is incredibly easy to trip over. Most of my devices with quick release plates lock those plates with levers that don't feel or make any noise when they snap into place. No, and it cannot be accidentally turned off. I'm getting a Manfrotto head tilted tomorrow and will see what I think of it. for what I do, that might be fine. One good thing about this head is that if you find a better designer shoe to replace it, you can unscrew the qr component from the top and throw it away. I'm hoping to either use the Manfrotto separately or install a QR engine on it. Dropped devices carry a lifetime warranty and will likely need service. That's a very good guarantee though - as many times as necessary, no whoops and you've used up your guarantee.
