A great alternative to big brands (cheap prices!).

A little background: My bike is the amazing Gary Fisher Sugar 1 and I ride in the mountains of Arizona. When the stock shock (Cane Creek Cloud Nine) started having issues that required a complete factory rebuild, I did a little research and found that I could purchase this shock for less than the cost of that rebuild. Encouraged by Revain's return policy, I jumped at the chance and ordered one. First impressions were that the shock looked great and felt like a quality kit. Installation was almost seamless - the lugs on this shock are 8mm, while the lugs on the Cloud Nine are just 6mm. No problem - for another $5 I bought some 6x8 steel bushings, popped them into the DNM grommets and installed the shock with ease. test drive time! I went down the flat trail first and wanted to see if the bike felt any different. After a small tweak to the rebound damper, the impact was smooth and soft. Better than the old CC shock that honestly lost all compression and rebound adjustments. For a tougher test, I drove to Granite Mountain. Powerful hits, rocky descents - the harder the course, the more impressed I am. This shock consumed everything effortlessly. The locking lever worked very well and helped reduce pedal wobble to near zero on steeper climbs. His behavior and feelings impressed me for several weeks and for several hundred kilometers. Only the test of time remains. After all, Reed Creek lasted over a decade and would still be a huge shock if I paid to have it restored. This DNM damper has a bulletproof feel. If I run into any issues I will definitely update this review as I continue to earn miles with it. Edit 12/26/17. Two years have passed and this shock is still strong. I haven't used this bike as my everyday choice since adding the Pivot to my fleet, but the Sugar is still widely used. The shock does not leak at all, despite the time and beating it has taken. I would definitely buy this damper again.
