Review on 🐠 10 Gallon Marina LED Aquarium Kit by Crystal Long

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Pretty good so far for beginners

UPDATE 25 Feb 22: I am deducting a few stars because we are having more problems with vibration noise from the filter unit. Have disassembled and cleaned the impeller (which looked ok) but it will still be quite noisy at times. I had to squeeze a small rubber gasket between the intake tube and the plastic lip that drains the water back into the tank because they were hitting each other. I also had to glue a gasket under the back cover, which also rattled. A bit disappointed, it popped out after only a few months of use. A similar top fin kit is currently available from your local Petsmart for half the price (we bought a 10 gallon top fin kit and the filter is very quiet). If we were to do it again I would most likely choose the Top Fin device. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Santa dumped this 5 gallon kit under our tree for our 4 and 7 year olds with no one in the house having any aquarium experience and the wife insists we don't get anything too big. We filled it with water according to the instructions for the aquarium and put it next to the drain in the basement for a few days to check for leaks - no problem. Then we set up the filter, got our decorations and initially bought 3 White Cloud Mountain minnows (not realizing that it's better to "grind" and set up our aquarium before we fish). I diligently checked the water parameters, changed the water regularly and added SeaChem Prime to protect the fish from ammonia release until the fish became established. We lost 1 fish after just a few days but then added 3 more and now we have 5 white clouds in a month that seem to be going well. We thought this was a great little set. Occasionally the plug-in filter vibrates a little loudly, but a quick adjustment of the cap stops the noise. As we learn more about this hobby I would probably recommend getting the 10 gallon to give more stocking options and the larger water volume gives better protection from sudden water quality changes that could kill your fish. All in all we can highly recommend this set. for beginners like us if you are willing to put in the water testing and water changes to keep your fish (and kids) happy. Should we have any problems with the tank in the future I will update this review.
