This cable is so useful! I have a second laptop that nobody in my family likes to use because it has a damaged LCD screen (small black hole). but it's a workhorse that I don't want to get rid of just yet. I suppose I could pay to have the screen fixed, but this Belkin HDMI Multiport Adapter makes my laptop usable again and lets me project from other devices as well. Now I will get my son to use this computer and hook it up to my gaming monitor instead of buying him a new computer when he starts high school this year. 1) I used the VGA connector on the cable and the female VGA connector on my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, 2) I also connected the USB connector on the other end of the cable to my laptop*. 3) Then connect the HDMI port of the cable to my HP Pavilion 27xw monitor. Ideal! I can project/duplicate what's on my laptop screen or extend the display to get more workspace.* Don't forget to plug in the USB cable to power the adapter, otherwise it won't works (to a computer, monitor, other powered device or wall). ). It took me a while (maybe a little longer) to figure out why my monitor isn't detecting my laptop. The adapter appears to be very well made and of good quality, with cables of a comfortable length. I really like magnetic heads to make everything look neat. The included Velcro is also useful for neat storage. This cable is expensive, but it's worth it considering how much it would cost for all these different adapters individually. I am very happy to have this useful device in my tech arsenal.
