A small mistake proved fatal

I bought a 24" Eaz-Lift jack to do exactly what it was designed to do - lift. Fatal. The 24" jack is rated at 5,000 pounds. However, its design cannot handle such a large load over the full range of lift. I experienced this using it to lift a 2000 pound load when the jack was almost flat. You see the problem, that I have is with the threaded rod that is used to raise and lower the jack. This threaded rod goes through a 3/4" to 1" thick cylinder on one end. This leaves more surface area for cargo handling. On the opposite end of the Rod where the 3/4" head is located, the entire lifting force of the jack is pushed against the head of the threaded rod. This head meets a round face, meaning a common face between them. is a very, very small circle. This surface area is absolutely tiny, much smaller than what is used to absorb the lift on the opposite end of the threaded rod. This is VERY problematic when climbing at low angles. A little trigonometry shows that at a small angle, the threaded rod must withstand more than 10 times the force that the jack lifts. While the threaded end of the bushing can take this, the other side cannot. You can see the results of this defect in picture I. In short, the claimed performance of this jack only applies when the jack is relatively high in its lifting range. If you need to lift something relatively low off the ground, you're going to have to use something - something else.
