100% cotton notebooks/journals are hard to find but I like these as a mixed journal. I don't think I really want to paint in it because the colors don't flow over the surface like Arches or Fabriano Artistico. They tend to stay where you put them. Some people like this quality, but I often like to put a drop on a wet area and let it do what it wants. However, it works well for large washes, especially gradients. The paper also creases a bit on very wet washes, I think 140lbs could be a bit better, but sometimes it also creases. While I really like the smallest size, this is a good size for my desktop. I bought it with the intention of keeping color mixes in mind when painting. I usually use scraps of paper, then I forget to write down what I used and then I can't remember. It's a good way to keep them all in one place and I can absorb colors better this way. It's expensive for my use, but since it's 100% cotton and stays open on its own, I'm happy with it and will likely buy more.
