Works well and can still be seen in daylight if I shield the light with my hand. Much easier to read in the shade or in the evening light. It uses NE2 type neon bulbs instead of LEDs to indicate voltage. While many competing manufacturers claim LEDs, they are not. Neon bulbs aren't really a problem, and to get something prettier with real LEDs or a real meter you'll have to spend a fortune. These neon lights are about 60 years old. They are durable and can handle thousands of volts so this tester should last forever. In my case I had a new high powered fence charger rated for 100 miles. The top light barely flickered telling me the charger was working fine and putting out 9000 volts. That's what I wanted to know.
