I use them for bike commutes in the colder months. Being a recreational diver since 1982 (I haven't dived in the last 15 years as I live inland) I don't know why I never considered them for my commute. My old snorkel boots were too worn to be useful and cheap enough to try. If not they are great for diving if I ever decide to take a refresher course or can afford a trip to the Caribbean. However they are big enough for my 13 wide feet and thin enough to fit most of the time. my hiking shoes, namely Lake MZX303 50 wide. The shoes are insulated on their own, but I'm not sure if the toes are insulated as well as the ankle area. I quickly adjusted to that on my first two-hour ride in 30-degree heat. I don't have Raynaud's, but my toes get cold pretty quickly while the rest of me warms up (I put that down to working in cold conditions for too long in my early years). With the Lake shoes, the thermal insulation of the sole is mainly ensured by the supplied inserts, which are not very convincing and do not insulate. Socks, my toes still have plenty of room for my feet, which is the key to warmth. Of course, the adjustable nature of Lake shoes helps. They keep my toes warm, although by the end of the ride my feet are quite damp. A worthy exchange for me, but something to keep in mind. They feel durable with no cracks or wear and tear over a season of almost daily use. At the end of each ride, I make sure to turn them inside out to dry. I've tried them in a pair of Shimano shoes that are a little less than wide enough and they only work without the sole inserts. A little uncomfortable to walk on, but otherwise passable (and still no cold toes).
