Review on John Boos Chop N Slice Maple Cutting Kitchen & Dining by Nicole Davis

Hacked in less than 2 weeks

I rarely write negative reviews. bad karma When my 12x18 chop n' slice maple board arrived less than 2 weeks ago, it was one of the best chopping boards we've ever had. Heavy, durable, nicely finished and a good size. It was great to buy something made in America; we were excited. We applied liberal amounts of edible mineral oil to all surfaces, left overnight and wiped off excess oil as directed prior to use. After a week of light use, quick rinsing and drying, we noticed split ends at the joints. After a few days the board warped, didn't lay flat and almost all the joints came loose. I do my best to take care of my wooden kitchen utensils, cast iron cookware, knives, etc. I didn't think my board would break like other reviewers did, but it did, and quickly. We have several old wooden planks, acacia, bamboo etc, all of which have withstood years of use with minimal maintenance. Unfortunately, this is the best we can expect from an American product that prides itself on its heritage of craftsmanship. Maybe the wood needs to be oiled or otherwise seasoned before it leaves the factory, maybe the instructions say "oil 5 times on first use", but whatever Boos does obviously doesn't work, judging by the many reviews it has given refer to it. Questions. I just hope Boos reads them and takes their quality to heart. I will try to go back and look for something similar but from a different brand until the situation improves.
