Poor quality control and processing

Immediately after unboxing I noticed a 3/4 inch section where there was no glue between the layers. It's not Revain's fault, it's a factory defect. I can stick a toothpick 1/4 inch in, the perfect spot for the liquid to damage the wood and breed bacteria.

Bad Boos Cutlery & Knife Accessory Block

Same experience as all other popular reviews. I thought my experience would be different. Maybe the other reviewers are getting it wrong? I bought the cream and oil and followed all the directions but my board started falling apart after 4 months of light use. This is a garbage product. I have a bamboo board I bought at a hardware store that lasted 5 years. Save time and money and look elsewhere.

  • Handy Item

Premium chopping board

I need a quality chopping board for my home. I was fed up with the little plastic cutting boards and wanted something better, bigger, and safer for my family. I did some research with Elton Brown and he recommended John Boos. I did more research and bought this one. This is a high quality, durable block of maple that will last a very long time if cared for properly. I treated it with John Boo's Mystery Oil and Conditioner Cream and loved it.

Sturdy kitchen workhorse

After reading the reviews on the chain I thought it was a bit risky with this cutting board. I overdid it a bit with the initial care, but it seems to have worked. For the first two weeks of use I dried it and smeared it with mineral oil 3 times a week and left the board overnight. Since then I've been oiling the board every 10 days or so. It's been about two months and there is no deformation. Otherwise the board is very durable, there are no complaints. I will update the review if I notice…

Cracked in less than a month of use

I have bought and used many Boos blocks over the years. With proper care they last a long time (10+, 15+ years) I know how to care for and use them and buy oil and cream. I know how to wash them, dry them, etc. This board is already cracking. I doubt the authenticity. Do not buy. Update September 6th - Revain has replaced the board. Again, it splits after a month of use. I remind you that I have had Boos boards and they have served me for many years. I smear and cream. I dry them after washing.

Pros
  • Great range
Cons
  • Expensive insurance

So chopping boards disappointment

I received this chopping board as a gift last Christmas and have been wanting to write this review for a while. Simply put, the joints of the wood break at the edges of the board. See photo. The darker board on the left has been mine for almost 30 years and the wood is in perfect condition - no chips, cracks or other signs of deterioration. I have never smeared it with oil or wax. The one on the right is the Boos brand which I have owned for less than 10 months. Despite oils and waxes, almost…

It's a great board until it breaks

I've had this board for 4 years now and have thoroughly cleaned and waxed/oiled it. It's well done. This is by far my favorite cutting board. I only use it for veggies; I don't use it for cutting meat or other "wet" applications. And after 4 years it starts to crack on both sides, which many people complain about. At this rate I think I can use it for about a year before it ends up in the fire pit. It's a little disappointing because the Farberware board I actually use for meat is 20 years old…

Hacked in less than 2 weeks

I rarely write negative reviews. bad karma When my 12x18 chop n' slice maple board arrived less than 2 weeks ago, it was one of the best chopping boards we've ever had. Heavy, durable, nicely finished and a good size. It was great to buy something made in America; we were excited. We applied liberal amounts of edible mineral oil to all surfaces, left overnight and wiped off excess oil as directed prior to use. After a week of light use, quick rinsing and drying, we noticed split ends at the…

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Boring packaging

I've had this board for almost a year now and haven't noticed any cracks or cracks. This is a solid and beautiful American board that I mainly use for cooking lots of vegetables. The board's heavy weight does not allow it to move, even when placed on a quartz countertop. I will say that most negative reviews here should be taken with a grain of salt. Yes, there are a few pics that show the panel being poorly bonded, but the vast majority of pics showing cracks are due to user error and poor…
