I used these as a background in my bioactive vivarium. They're fine for my purposes, but a few things to note: the material folds in half and it's very hard to manipulate into any other shape (not impossible, just wants to stay the way it is), would the mats be twice as thick as the others? not necessarily a disadvantage, but it definitely made aligning mattes next to my background uncomfortable. The thinner one was maybe 1/8 inch thick, the thicker one was closer to 1/4 inch. There are many uses for these reptile rugs so overall they seem to do the job.
