Review on Astronomical Telescope - Ultra Portable - Quick 5 Minute Setup - Enhanced Stability Tripod - Smartphone Photography Holder by Jeff Westra

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Neat telescope - ideal for beginners

Advantages: - 70mm large diameter prism system - 400mm focal length - 3 rotating eyepieces (25mm, 17.5mm, 9mm) - has a Barlow lens that magnifies 3x - magnification range from 16x - 133.5x - Soft eyepiece - Compact and lightweight - Comes with a travel case - Easy assembly - Smartphone adapter - Tripod - Has a compass mounted on top of the telescope Cons: - Requires adjustment of viewfinder to focus lens - Rotatable The lenses to increase the magnification have too much play which actually confuses the field of view - The telescope came in its original packaging with no other packaging or cushioning materials. I ordered this telescope because my son is very interested in the moon and planets. I thought it would be a great teaching tool to explore his curiosity. I don't really know much about telescopes, so I don't know the different types of telescopes and which ones are better or maybe not better. This telescope was pretty easy to set up. Didn't use phone mount. We were able to see the moon with very little difficulty. What I noticed is that when using a barrow lens and switching from one lens to another, it was easy to remove the field of view from the moon because the telescope vibrates too much when you move the eyepieces. When I first set up the telescope I had the viewfinder fully adjusted and when I tried to see the image through the eyepiece I couldn't find it. I had to adjust the finderscope while someone was looking through the eyepiece to get it right. So far I feel this is a decent telescope for beginners. I know that really good telescopes can be very expensive. So you get what you pay for.
