While the other parts work very well, the carafe itself is poorly made. I had the bottom break after using it maybe a dozen times and always with very careful use and cleaning. The glass at the bottom of the carafe is very thin and cannot withstand even the most thorough cleaning. I reject the French press method as too expensive. It just doesn't make sense that mugs can't be made to withstand gentle and proper care.
