To control the electric water heater with NodeMCU, flashed with ESP Home. Works from 3.3V without problems. I hooked up the SSR to a large heatsink that was originally used for the AMD Athlon 64 and I believe it was rated for around 90W, which is probably a lot more than many heatsinks sold for these relays. It's been working for about a week now and I'm very happy with it. I'm on a variable speed power plan and can automatically turn the water heater off during the hours when the speed jumps and I don't have to turn it on at night. I would say that the water heater runs for about 6 hours from morning to noon and about 4 hours in the evening and then turns off for the night. The element is rated at 3500 watts so will probably run at around a 15 amp load, which is easily handled by this relay with the heatsink I have.
