I did a lot of research on Amazon before purchasing this filter and have previously used Brita filters. I hated the Brita filters, the taste, filling the jug, cleaning comprised pretty much everything about them. I chose this Apex filter because I saw that they are a California company and their filters comply with the state's stringent safety laws. I was considering buying a similar filter from another company on Amazon, then noticed that the description was hiding a Proposition 65 warning stating this product contains chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or cause other reproductive harm. I couldn't believe that some desktop water filters could be made from chemicals known to cause these health problems. The concept completely defeats the purpose of using a water filter. I've read in the question sections that all Apex water filters are BPA-free, and since the company is based in California, I assume they meet the stringent regulations of the California EPA. I also love the idea that I'm supporting a local company that makes products with high safety standards and I'm proud to support them. I use the filter and am very happy with it and will recommend Apex Filter to my friends and family. The water filter is great, but make sure your faucet is a standard size before you buy it as it probably won't fit if it's not a standard sized faucet.
