I take the standard cake mix in the box and divide it by one-third into thirds and put the other two-thirds into two separate ziplock bags or two reusable storage containers. If you divide the mixture into three, you'll only need one egg per batch. Separating the water and oil measurements is a bit tricky, but once you've done it, write it down and save the information with the rest of the cake mix and you're ready to go next time. It takes a little experimentation to find the right baking time. I've found it takes anywhere from 5 to almost 8 minutes depending on what I'm adding to the cake mix. So I set the microwave timer (the machine doesn't have its own timer) for 5 minutes and then check. Then I add about a minute and check again. After you've baked the cupcakes a few times, this will make things easier and easier. I like this kitchen helper very much. It has a small footprint (smaller than I thought it would be) and worth it to enjoy some fresh muffins without the fuss of the oven. I use paper cupcake cases (but they say you don't have to). When I spill some batter onto the machine's heating surface, it immediately flakes off. I love my cake oven and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get into small batch baking.
