I wasn't looking for a serious steel welding machine - read my review accordingly. I wanted to melt some large diameter (10 ga) non-ferrous metal beyond the capability of my regular propane air torch. They can generate high enough temperatures, but the metal sucks the heat out of the joint too quickly to melt. That does its job very well. I was having trouble dealing with 10ga wire ends. The regular leads didn't fit, the shapes are too jagged for the fabricated leads to work well, and I'm just not keen on using glue on these things - a good, strong cold joint like a rivet gives me more sense of the commands. Craft, but it would be difficult to apply, if at all possible. A fused end seemed ideal, and a lightweight oxy-gas unit seemed the tool of choice. The first results are all good. And compared to the Smith Little Torch (another multi-tasking tool), the tanker is a caddy compared to the Volkswagen Smith. However, I have to agree with some negative reviews. Yes, single-use oxygen cylinders have a limited lifespan (and a high price tag), but don't blame this tool. A little practice and a light touch will produce the desired result. Yes, threading an oxygen cylinder onto a valve isn't easy, but I think I had trouble with the initial pressure release as the valve entered the cylinder before the cylinder and valve threads snagged. And one more thing, it's not the instrument's fault. ; You must ignite the fuel before turning on the oxygen, as with any torch. But it takes a while for the oxygen valve to work, and the fuel burns like soot, throwing carbon filaments into the air until the oxygen kicks in. I have a cramped workspace with limited ventilation, but I also have an air purifier. When I light this flashlight, the air filter dirt sensor turns on and the fan goes into overdrive. Otherwise, if you have good ventilation and a tolerance for a little dirt, I envy you. Otherwise, I highly recommend adding an air purifier to your shopping cart, if not for lights and chores, then for those who share work and living space with you. - wired weird
