It is important to use a hard wire to the heater so that fuel pulses are not dampened. With this damper, my heater smoked a lot more when starting than without it. Removing this damper fixed the smoke issue on takeoff. If you are at low altitude (boat etc) this might still work for you. The noise reduction is about 25-50%.
