I bought these for my mini bike and kart. When traveling with children, it makes sense to have a brake light. The kart is powered by a 12V DC battery and the light is very bright. The mini bike is powered by a light coil, so the voltage is between 9 and 14 VAC depending on the engine speed. I wasn't sure if they would work, but they sure do run on AC. It's not as bright as 12vdc and they flicker a bit, but it's very acceptable compared to the bulb stop light I had before which used so much current that the headlight became very dim. Now when I hit the brakes on a minibike, the headlight doesn't dim at all.
