We live in a rural area where people are constantly discarding unwanted cats. We catch, sterilize, vaccinate and release as many as we can. Some cats leave after a visit to the vet, others choose to stay. Since there are too many to keep indoors, our garage became Kitty Central. Access is via a heavily frequented cat door. I bought this cat door to fit in a garage door that we replaced a few weeks ago. Despite the low cost and plastic construction, it's fairly durable. This door seems to hold up well for our dozen plus cats, so I suspect it would work well for regular sized house cats as well. Our 18 pound male finds the door narrow although he manages to squeeze through. It goes with our other kittens. A number of reviewers commented on how small the door is, although the 5x7 inch door is identical to the cat door we replaced which could accommodate cats of all sizes. We actually had to tape up the door for a few days to teach the kittens how to use the new door. The magnet holding the door shut was more embarrassing than the little flap (the magnet on our old cat door was missing, so the kitties had to learn how to push that door).
