BMW F06 (2016+ 650i GC). Was apprehensive about using the sticky clay/substance, thinking I would break off the flimsy plastic inside. And was prepared to remove the unit and do it the hard way. But on the very 1st try, it came out smooth and easy, and the new one snapped right in. Just be sure to have the clay cover a good chunk of the old button first, wait at least 15 to 20 secs, form a good grip/handle out of the clay to hold, and pull it out crisply, nice and straight. Once old button came out, I removed the clay immediately to protect the button just in case.
