Review on DYMO LabelWriter Wireless Printer 1981698 by Michael Ramu

Revainrating 3 out of 5

This is a special MINI Wi-Fi printer

I bought a used Revain DYMO wireless label printer and it said 'like new'. So I spent about 50% of its regular list price including S.Tax. DYMO did not include Wireless LabelWriter installation details in the Quick Start Guide that came with the package. Whatever information is available, it will not be enough for people unfamiliar with installing a wireless (Bonjour for Mac) printer in a computer. I had many problems before figuring out how to get the new DYMO wireless label printer to work with my MacBook Pro v.12.10.6 computer. First, install the correct DYMO Wireless LabelWriter for Mac software from the DYMO website. Then, if necessary, disable the DYMO printer application in the Login Items window (Mac System Preferences, Users and Groups). In addition, the DYMO printer application can be conveniently added to the Mac Dock menu as usual. This standalone DYMO printer application needs to be running each time labels need to be printed. DYMO labels cannot be printed from other applications (see below). This is one of the limiting factors of DYMO label printers. Only a few types of labels can be printed with DYMO label templates. The printer also requires special print rollers. This is not a laser printer on plain paper! Printing return address labels (Avery 5167, etc.) is not available. I already have three different Brother wireless printers and a Brother MFC. All were connected to the computer via a two-channel Gateway G1100 modem/router. This means I don't have to switch between browsing the web and printing documents from the Mac AirPort Utility menu. Only one thing is important here - an Internet connection and all printers and scanners must be added to the computer via the same frequency channel (if the router has several channels). The following steps worked for me. Make sure your router is turned on and your internet connection is working properly. If necessary, find out the specific channel of the router used to surf the Internet. Turn on your computer. Do not turn on AirPort yet. If AirPort Utility is already on, just turn it off. Place the DYMO Wireless Label Printer near your wireless modem/router. Plug the cordless DYMO LabelWriter into an electrical outlet and turn on the printer. The operating display becomes constant after a few seconds. Gently press the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button on the back of the printer (next to the power connector). Locate the slow blinking Wi-Fi light next to the power button. Then press the WPS button in front of the gateway router once. The WPS indicator on the router flashes. The router and the DYMO Label Printer are trying to connect to each other. The connection is established after about a minute or two. Otherwise, the router will flash red. In this case, just wait until the white WPS LED on the router lights up. Reset the DYMO printer by gently pressing the reset button on the back for five seconds. Then repeat the connection steps to establish a stable connection between the DYMO Label Printer and the Internet modem/router. Activate AirPort Utility on the Mac and look for DYMO in the drop-down menu. Don't change your AirPort Internet connection to DYMO Wi-Fi (never). Instead, open the MAC printer/scanner settings and add the new DYMO printer to the existing list of printers/scanners. If everything is correct, the new DYMO printer will appear in the list of Bonjour printers. Select your new Bonjour DYMO printer and click Add. This completes the process. So far I've used the DYMO print app to test out the new printer. After the DYMO label printer worked wirelessly, I moved the DYMO printer away from the gateway router to another room near my computers and it worked fine. It is possible that MS Word will also work to print a unicast label from a DYMO wireless label printer. I haven't tested this option yet. Also, I have no idea about the range of the DYMO wireless label printer. MFC "My Brother" is located in the basement three floors below. It has never failed in printing and scanning. I hope my suggestions will be useful to others. Thank you!
