Works as intended, many have been used in various form factors.

These are great for older machines where replacing an IDE hard drive is next to impossible. Award BIOS ROM motherboards usually have no problems with these adapters, on the other hand Phoenix often requires you to bypass the onboard IDE and use PCI or ISA, the IDE controller or the board freezes or shows other strange quirks .
