Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Efficiently Tackle Your Home Mechanic Needs with Park Tool PW-5 Pedal Wrench by Ghostnote Azevedo

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Serviced bike, good selection of tools. Worn bike, buy PM-3 or 4 professional tool.

After reading many negative reviews, I hesitated to buy the Park PW-5 pedal instrument. However, since it costs so much less than the professional PW-3 and PW-4, I decided to give it a try. . They came off effortlessly with the Park Tool PM-5. When trying to decide if this tool is right for you, here are a few questions to ask yourself: Are you using a solid steel crankset? Was the bike stored? Do you ride your bike hard and clean it wet? Is corrosion visible? Were the pedals installed 10 or more years ago? Did the gorilla install rod brake pedals and have no idea of the torque spec? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, you should consider investing in the more expensive PW-3 or PW-4. Both are capable of providing excellent leverage and grip. Both are made of high quality steel. However, both cost more than twice as much +. If you lubricated the pedal threads prior to installation and are servicing your bike, the PW-5 should be fine. Especially if your cranks are aluminum and don't regularly leave them overnight. The PM-5 is effectively an <11 Bic lighter. It did the job and if it fails after the next use, it still costs less than a trip to LBS. I'm going to throw it away (recycle) and get another one. Also, Shimano now uses an 8mm hex (socket) on the spindle, so why invest in a bike shop tool with outdated technology? What about tooling? It's not as pretty as the others, but again, it's less than $11. Happy with this purchase, replaced pedals (2000 - PD-M747, replaced 2016 - XTR M9000). To be fair to those with less experience, I'll admit: I service my bikes myself. I always clean my bike after a wet or muddy ride. I grease everything. My bikes are in the garage. (In California). It rarely rains here. I never cross threads or force the threaded connections of components. Many thanks to Park Tools for providing a cost effective alternative to LBS or more expensive tools.
