A Chromebook is a great alternative to a traditional laptop if you use it primarily for media browsing, email, web browsing and low productivity. Because Chromebooks tend to be cheaper than traditional laptops, they're also an economical choice. It's also important to note that Chromebooks don't run Windows, they run Google Chrome OS and apps downloaded from the Play Store. This means not all apps you might want to use will work on a Chromebook. Therefore, find out in advance if you have any important apps that you need to use. So far this Chromebook has been excellent. The large 14-inch screen is great for surfing the web. The touchpad is large and responsive. (This model doesn't have a touchscreen, so you'll need to use a keyboard or touchpad.) Scrolling is made easier with a two-finger drag (there are a few simple Chrome OS gestures). The keyboard is also clear and responsive. The 14-inch screen size is also great for video streaming. Since the screen is HD, the video looks great. However, despite the 1080P HD resolution, don't expect overwhelming picture quality. It looks great and I'm very happy with it, but the screen doesn't have the same color saturation or panel quality as a high-end standalone monitor or gaming laptop. I point this out so you can manage your expectations. Of course, a high-end monitor alone will cost more than this Chromebook, as will a gaming laptop. If you're looking for top-notch gaming graphics, gaming performance, or top-notch image quality, you're probably not looking at a Chromebook anyway. The sound is just fantastic. I usually just ignore the built-in speakers and immediately opt for a headset, but the audio quality on this device is excellent. Movies and music sound great. It's loud, crisp and clear. The sound is produced by the audio experts at Bang & Olufsen, so I'm not surprised that it sounds great. I also love that this HP Chromebook has 4GB of RAM. Adequate RAM is essential for efficient multitasking and a smoother experience, and many manufacturers skimp on this by only offering 2GB of RAM. If you've ever used a cheap mobile phone with 2GB of RAM and suffered from processing lags and poor performance as a result, you know the importance of having enough RAM. I don't need it, but I was also happy to see that this device comes with a one-year warranty and 24/7 web support. The battery life is sufficient and I like the light weight of the device. It is easy to carry and fits in my backpack. Overall this is excellent value for money. HP is a long-standing manufacturer of high-quality hardware. If you need a Chromebook, this is a good choice.
