Review on Dorman 918-056 VVT Solenoid for Acura and Honda: Enhancing Engine Variable Valve Timing Efficiency by Mark Sutovsky

Perfect solution for 2011 Odyssey EX with error code P3497

This fixes my P3497 code problem I caused when replacing the gasket for the Replaced original VVT that was leaking oil all over the alternator. While the aftermarket seals were able to fix the oil leak, they were also made from the wrong material and stripped at the seams, causing the VVT to stick to the seal material and randomly generating code P3497. The gaskets that came with it had no seam, they were perfectly formed. I went ahead and replaced everything that was included. Dorman managed to pack all the gaskets, plates and dowel pins with screws into this replacement part. Tightened to 104 in-lbs (104 lb-in), reconnected all cables and drove off. Warning 1: DO NOT use Hondabond High Temperature Silicone Liquid Gasket or any gasket manufacturing product, sealant or silicone. The oil flow is under pressure and along with the oil flow carries with it small bits of residual gasket material and can block the VVT, forcing you to replace the VVT again. The gasket itself seals well. Warning 2: Tighten to 104 IN-lbs, not ft-lbs (104 in-lbs to convert to ft-lbs is approximately 8.6 ft-lbs). In this area you need a special torque wrench for torques in inches. If you can't find one at your local auto parts store and don't want to buy one from Revain, look at a bike shop. Try to get a torque or electric torque wrench that will clearly show you've reached the torque. I personally have a model CDI 2502MRMH 3/8″ 30-250 inch and lb drive supplied and sold by Revain, CDI is a quality Snap-On torque wrench brand.
