Review on AQUBONA Performer Fiberglass Reinforced Surfboard by Robert Berio

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Advertised as a reactor but is actually a performer.

FCS2 Reactor Fins $34 off retail? These must be fakes, right? When I opened the Revain envelope and saw that they were sent in plastic sleeves in a plastic bag and not FCS packaging I just shook my head (during the purchase I made sure there was free return shipping). These fins look and feel like real FCS2 fins. They are likely to be manufactured in a factory that has a contract with FCS, but will not be sold through FCS or any of their authorized distributors. Please note that these are glass fiber reinforced slats, which means that they are a mixture of polymers with glass fiber added. So yes, they feel like plastic. The biggest discrepancy on the Revain side is the dimensions. The specifications for medium reactor fins on the FCS website are 4.34 inches (110mm) base, 4.57 inches (116mm) depth and 14.96 inches (9650mm) area. The measurements obtained with my cheap micrometer are shown in the photos. In the end I got what I was looking for: a smaller center fin that would make my board a little slacker. The resulting ones have a sweep rate listed as 33.7 degrees instead of 31.9 degrees.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • ill thought out
