I have no idea about felting - not how to do it or what materials are best, but right after opening this kit I was able to make a little troll. There are two needle holders, so if I'm not missing anything, two people could easily use this. The included foam item IS PART OF THE SET. I let my dog play with it and then I had to pick up what was left, which is like packing up garbage. I obviously didn't read the instructions so I might be doing it wrong, but you can watch out for more foam like this because mine ended up softening and deflating. The needles are very sharp but I've pricked a few times and it didn't hurt much - still I think it's only for kids who are trusted with a sewing machine or older. because mine eventually became soft and deflated.
