My '99 Jeep Wrangler had some brake problems which quickly went away after 20 seconds of driving. I knew if it was an injector or spark plug problem it would be permanent. Since it was an updraft (before the catalyst) he's trying to compensate for what he believes to be an engine exhaust problem by adding more or less fuel to the mixture.
